We believe in the transformative power of grounding social action in the wisdom of contemplation. Contemplation as a concept is broadly defined as the practice of deep reflection. To promote the value of contemplation as it relates to effective social action, we aim to demonstrate the importance of contemplative practices in building sustainable movements for a healthier, safer, and more compassionate world, and develop solutions to today’s real-world, human-created problems, from an epidemic of psychological trauma to global climate change.
Garrison Institute Affiliation
The Garrison Institute International is an affiliate to the Garrison Institute (US).
The Institute brings together an unusual mix of constituents: contemplative and spiritual teachers, highly-credentialed academic scientists, and those working on new forms of social and environmental engagement. Together we seek to better understand the mind and the many systems it inhabits, and to develop new pathways, rooted in a mix of both spiritual and secular understanding, that lead to deep and lasting social transformation.
The mission of the Garrison Institute International (GII) is to demonstrate and disseminate the importance of contemplative practices and spiritually grounded values in building sustainable movements for a healthier, safer, and more compassionate world.
GII aims to help finding solutions to today’s real-world, human-created problems, from an epidemic of psychological trauma to global climate change. GII builds on both modern science and the world’s great wisdom traditions to demonstrate the power of contemplative practice, in order to look beyond delusions of separation, shift perspectives and unleash creative energies, to discover new ways of thinking and a new understanding of our interconnectedness.
The Garrison Institute International's programs develop rigorous, evidence-based ways to apply contemplative methodologies to key social change fields—such as education, ecology and humanitarian aid—redefining their core issues, connecting them to a larger context of systemic change.
Our goal is to cultivate new thought and leadership that can inspire large numbers of people by appealing not just to their minds, but also to their hearts. Grounding social action in the wisdom of contemplation is transformative.
